Save Western Ghats Meet

Western ghats meet in Karnataka an eye opener for youths

Save western ghats meet started with a beautiful hearing of bamboo bandtune at Moodbidri(Near Mangalore) at 9.00am on 27.01.2011. Every one was surprised whether such a music can be composed by only using bamboos. Sri Anantha hedge asisara western ghats task force Govt of Karnataka inaugurated the function by watering the plants.

Then later all the environmentalists, naturalists and youths were divided into seven different teams. The theme was to discuss “by what ways these westernghats can be conserved”. Each team had its ownperception and which a chart is been given to write down all the key points. A small presentation was done by member from each team in front of expertise.
Expert panel answered for all the questions which was raised during the presentation. This has taken much time of what ever one has expected. Mind blowing yaksha gana dance performance was done by Alva’s educational institution late evening. The dance reflected the cultural and traditional aspect of our country.
On the second day we went to field trip to Kudremukh national park and Mining rehabilitation site. Expertise explained us how mining has done enough damage to the places in and around it. And also how conservationists fought against the destroying of hills. Now the mining has been completely stopped after the judgement given by supreme court.

Later we started to see the buffalo race near moodbidri. I was amazed to see such a race shows that traditional is still followed in rural places. late evening, feedback session was organised by
the youths of all the six states. The session was the most highlighted event through out the meet.Every one spoke from their heart that “what we need to do” and “how we need to work as a team”.
